In this weeklong workshop, students will spend the first couple of days learning the basics of playwriting and writing short two- to three-character plays. We’ll workshop the plays under the tutelage of Kelly Dwyer (with Scott helping) through staged readings, and the students will revise and finish them. By mid-week, we’ll switch roles, so that playwrights now become actors, and students will now focus on learning how to perform the plays under the direction of Scott Rawson (with Kelly helping). By the end of the week, we’ll be ready for a showcase performance for the community!

Instructor Kelly Dwyer is Senior Lecturer at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County. She is a published novelist, served on the board of CAB (Creative Alliance of Baraboo) Theatre for five years, and has written many short plays, one of which just premiered at The Redacted Play Festival in New York in February, 2017.

Instructor Scott Rawson co-founded CAB Theatre and serves as its Artistic Director; he also is the playwright and director for CAB’s Teens ‘N Theater project. Scott has acted, directed, and written for Broom Street Theatre and the Veterans Museum Cemetery Tours in Madison and many independent and commercial films. Scott has been seen in many Baraboo productions, including BTG’s “Guys and Dolls” and “Into the Woods,” and UW-BSC’s “Chicago.”

Together, Kelly and Scott have worked on all of CAB Theatre’s Play in a Weekend youth theatre workshops, and have collaborated on writing two of its plays, “Framed: An Enchanted Mystery” and “Gone Greek God.”
