UWM Mask Requirement Now Optional
As we transition to a new phase of living with COVID-19, UWM will no longer require students, employees and visitors to wear masks indoors on campus, starting Saturday, March 19, 2022.
We are making this change in response to a directive from UW System that reflects declining infection rates on UW campuses, and a high vaccination rate among faculty, staff and students. Consistent with the System guidance, other UW campuses have also lifted their mask requirements in March. Many communities, including the City of Milwaukee, are making similar changes.
While UWM has eliminated the mask requirement in campus buildings, we will continue to strongly recommend, in accordance with CDC guidance, that students, employees and visitors wear masks when inside public spaces on campuses.
UWM appreciates our campus community’s commitment to following health and safety guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a high rate of vaccination and other measures, we have kept our infection rates relatively low, even during the recent surge of the omicron variant.
In addition, initial vaccinations and boosters are available at many locations — find them by searching your community on vaccines.gov.
Testing will no longer be required for unvaccinated students and staff after May 20, 2022. All UWM students and employees are encouraged to use the daily symptom monitor and practice safe social distancing. When in doubt, stay home if you have symptoms.
