Continuing Education is offering a holiday treat south of the Wisconsin state line in Woodstock and Crystal Lake, IL. Both charming cities have town squares that are decked in holiday lights and ornaments and are right out of Norman Rockwell’s Americana. Woodstock’s downtown includes a historic, turn-of-the-century town square, anchored by the landmark Woodstock Opera House and the Old McHenry County Courthouse. The city was named one of the nation’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations in 2007 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. After a tour of the opera house, some shopping and a fine lunch in the historic Public House, we will take the Metra train to the equally beautiful Crystal Lake. Our guide there will direct us to landmark
buildings before turning us loose to shop and tour this quaint town. Before we return to Wisconsin, we’ll have deep-dish pizza at the award-winning Georgio’s Chicago Pizza. Join your travel buddies in these historic and quaint Chicago suburbs.
