Full scholarships available to the first 30 students to apply!

UWM College of General Studies Continuing Education is pleased to announce a new program beginning this spring. Applications will be accepted on a first-come basis and will be awarded entry into the program based on space and student need. The Women and Girls Fund of Waukesha County has provided grant funding for this program. Any scholarship awarded must be to Waukesha County residents to satisfy the grant requirements.

Beyond GEMS involves a semester long commitment from female students into a program that will assist in the planning of a high school GEMS program and will also include leadership and team building work towards a certificate.

Beyond GEMS is framed around the importance of developing the mindset of young females to succeed by providing access and opportunities for them to network, meet and talk with decision-makers, learn the needed skills to a supervisory position, obtain real-life experience working as a GEMS advisory board member, practice emotional health and well-being, master time management and goal setting, prepare for beyond high school, and develop bonds with mentors that will provide them with the knowledge and skills they will carry with them throughout their careers.

The Beyond GEMS Leadership Certificate is an innovative program and is all about the empowerment of young females.  Female students, ages 15-18 years, will connect to area business leaders in STEM fields, learn practical skills with completion of a Developing Leadership Certificate, will be active on the GEMS Conference advisory and planning committee, and empower their health and well-being through powerful speakers. This is a five-part program involves students in several ways, as all parts of the program are intertwined. Students will meet on UW-Milwaukee CGS at Waukesha campus, as well as virtually, approximately every other Saturday from January 2022 – May 2022. A graduation ceremony will conclude at the Beyond GEMS Conference!

Program participants will receive a UW-Milwaukee Waukesha Continuing Education Completion Certificate. At completion of program, participants and their family will be invited to graduation ceremony where certificates will be awarded.

Full program scholarships are available to the first 30 Waukesha County students. Program tuition is $499 per student. Students may receive a full or partial award after the first 30 scholarships are awarded and will be provided based on need. Please submit your application to Continuing-ed@uwm.edu.
