This 5-week workshop will focus on the creation of ceramic objects to be fired in a bourry box style wood burning salt kiln located at the UWM at Waukesha Field Station. Class time will be divided between lectures on salt firing history and philosophy, demonstrations and time for the construction of ceramic work to be fired in the salt kiln. Students will be allowed access to the ceramics studio outside of regularly scheduled class times to create work for the firing. The final two weeks of the course will be designated to preparing the kiln to be fired and firing the salt kiln which may be outside of the scheduled class time. This course is open to any skill level however, some prior knowledge of ceramics is suggested.
